Grand River and Abul Mogard embody the two-generation revival of Italy's experimental music scene. Abul Mogard emerged in the early 2000s with a series of records mixing post-punk snarl and fragile drone. Grand River, aka Aimée Portioli, for her part, produces strange music that's too rhythmic to be ambient, but not danceable enough for the dancefloor. Their joint album, In Uno Spazio Immenso, captures the galactic sublime of a black hole: a dizzying fall into a whirlpool of textures and rhythms.
