A true collective performance, both surprising and hypnotic, The Dog Days Are Over reveals what has become Jan Martens’ signature style: geometry, repetition, mathematics, polyrhythms. Lined up, eight dancers stamp the floor in unison, linking footwork and rhythmic variations. Through their leaps and their exhaustion, the performers seem to pose a question: what do we expect from a performance? Where does the boundary lie between art and entertainment?
