Les Océanographes

Émilie Rousset et Louise Hémon

In the 1950s, Anita Conti boarded a boat and became the first French woman oceanographer to film cod fishermen in the Atlantic.

This show pays tribute to her by bringing together archive images, anecdotes from her time on board, recent images taken with new underwater cameras, and first-hand accounts from contemporary oceanographers. This living portrait shows the extent to which Conti’s struggle was modern, and how she foresaw the urgent need to protect the world’s oceans before anyone else sounded the omnipresent alarm we now hear.
