Einstein on the Beach – Philip Glass
Suzanne Vega, Ensemble Ictus & Collegium Vocale Gent
Composed by Philip Glass, directed by Robert Wilson, and presented for the first time at the 1976 Festival d’Avignon, Einstein on the Beach revolutionized contemporary opera, both in terms of form and content. More than forty years later, this show – reinvented as a concert with singer Suzanne Vega, the Ensemble Ictus, the Collegium Vocale Gent, and visual artist / scenographer Germaine Kruip – remains just as fascinating as ever. This combination of American minimalist and opera remains a one-of-a-kind, powerful experience both in terms of visuals and sounds.
