Contre-enquêtes

Nicolas Stemann

Nicolas Stemann uses Kamel Daoud’s novel, Meursault contre-enquête – written as a reaction to Albert Camus’s L’Étranger – as a means of exploring post-colonialism in Algeria. Through this text and all the sensitive issues contained within, the German director stages a dialogue between a North African man and another with pied-noir parents, both of whom are victims of the same history. Consequently, he examines our relationship to others and the impact of history on us all. To do this, he does not hesitate to mix theatrical genres and use music, video or visual arts – all of which prop up his narrative.
