Bassekou Kouyaté

Malian musician Bassekou Kouyaté is a virtuoso of the n’goni (a type of traditional African guitar), and an artist who fervently combines past and present to create music without borders. With his wife on vocals, three other n’goni players and percussionists, he has already recorded five albums, travelled to the four corners of the world, and played with the greats, from Taj Mahal to Ali Farka Touré by way of Sir Paul McCartney and Damon Albarn as part of Africa Express. It’s no wonder that Bassekou Kouyaté has become the ambassador of a tradition in perpetual (r)evolution.
